Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  2. Remove the left sound insulator.
  3. Remove the knee bolster as necessary.

  4. Object Number: 97531  Size: SH
  5. Remove the shift control cable retaining clips at the steering column.
  6. Remove the shift control cable at the steering column.
  7. Remove the cable assembly through the hole in the cowl.

  8. Object Number: 97521  Size: SH
  9. Remove the shift control cable from the transmission manual shaft lever and the bracket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Properly route and position the cable.

  2. Object Number: 97521  Size: SH
  3. Install the shift control cable at the transmission manual shaft lever and the bracket on the transmission.

  4. Object Number: 97521  Size: SH
  5. Install the shift control cable at the steering column.
  6. Install the shift control cable retaining clips at the steering column.
  7. Enable the SIR system.
  8. Adjust the cable. Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Adjustment
