REVISION: 07/16/96
THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO UPDATE THE WARRANTY INFORMATION. PLEASE DISCARD CORPORATE BULLETIN NUMBER 63-15-12 (SECTION 10 - BODY). **********************************************************************
SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON A HIGH CLOSING EFFORT OF THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID.
THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY ADJUSTED DURING VEHICLE ASSEMBLY. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT MISALIGNMENT OF THE HINGES, THE LATCH, THE LATCH STRIKER OR A COMBINATION OF THOSE COULD CAUSE HIGH CLOSING EFFORT OF THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID.
VERIFY AND ADJUST THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID USING THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE:
VERIFY THAT THE RUBBER OVERSLAM BUMPERS ARE SCREWED INTO THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID COMPLETELY. DO NOT USE THE OVERSLAM BUMPERS FOR ADJUSTMENT.
FORE/AFT ADJUSTMENT AND FLUSHNESS:
1. WITH THE LID IN THE CLOSED POSITION, VERIFY THE FORE/AFT ADJUSTMENT OF THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID AT THE REAR CORNERS OF THE LID. ALSO, VERIFY THE FLUSHNESS OF THE LID TO THE QUARTERS. IF ADJUSTMENT IS NECESSARY, LOOSEN THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID TO HINGE BOLTS AND ADJUST THE LID.
2. TIGHTEN HINGE BOLTS TO 25 N.M (18 LB FT).
3. IF THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID IS NOT FLUSH AT THE REAR, LOOSEN THE INNER LATCH STRIKER MOUNTING BOLT AND CLOSE THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID.
4. FROM BENEATH THE REAR BUMPER FASCIA, MARK THE VERTICAL LOCATION OF THE OUTER LATCH STRIKER MOUNTING NUTS.
5. LOOSEN THE OUTER LATCH STRIKER MOUNTING NUTS.
O THE LATCH STRIKER SHOULD MOVE UPWARD.
O IF THE LATCH STRIKER DOES NOT MOVE, IT IS PROBABLY AT THE TOP OF ITS ADJUSTMENT RANGE. THIS WILL REQUIRE THAT AN ADJUSTMENT BE MADE TO THE LATCH ASSEMBLY.
6. VERIFY THAT REAR COMPARTMENT LID REMAINS FLUSH TO THE QUARTER PANELS AND TIGHTEN THE OUTER LATCH STRIKER MOUNTING NUTS TO 9 N.M (80 LB IN).
7. TIGHTEN THE INNER LATCH STRIKER MOUNTING BOLT TO 9 N.M (80 LB IN).
LID TO QUARTER GAPS:
1. WITH THE LID IN THE CLOSED POSITION, INSPECT THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID TO QUARTER PANEL GAPS (3 TO 4MM) AT THE FRONT AND REAR CORNERS OF THE LID.
O IF THE PROPER GAPS ARE PRESENT, ADJUSTMENTS TO THE LATCH STRIKER OR LATCH MAY BE REQUIRED.
O IF THE PROPER GAPS ARE NOT PRESENT, THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID WILL REQUIRE ADJUSTMENT.
A. REMOVE THE REAR SHELF PANEL. REFER TO SECTION 10-10 OF THE APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUAL.
B. LOOSEN THE LID HINGE TO REAR SHELF ATTACHMENTS.
C. POSITION THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID IN THE OPENING TO OBTAIN THE PROPER GAPS.
2. LOOSEN THE LATCH MOUNTING BOLTS.
3. WITH AN ASSISTANT IN THE REAR COMPARTMENT, GENTLY CLOSE THE LID UNTIL THE LATCH CONTACTS THE LATCH STRIKER. WHILE HOLDING THE LID DOWN, HAVE THE ASSISTANT SNUG THE LATCH MOUNTING BOLTS.
4. RAISE THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID AND TIGHTEN THE LATCH MOUNTING BOLTS TO 10.5 N.M (93 LB IN).
5. TIGHTEN HINGE TO SHELF ATTACHMENTS TO 18 N.M (13 LB FT).
6. VERIFY THE PROPER OPERATION OF THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID.
7. VERIFY THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID TO QUARTER PANEL GAPS.
