If the collision was so severe that the bumper
did not return to the original position, replace the energy absorbers using
the following steps:
- Stand clear of the bumper.
- Hold the bumper in the current position with a positive restraint,
such as a chain or a cable.
- Wear safety glasses. Use a 3 mm (1/8 in) drill (3)
in order to drill a hole in the piston tube (1) near the bumper bracket.
This will relieve the gas pressure.
- Remove the energy absorbers after you have relieved the gas pressure.
