Owners of 1985 through 1987 Firenza models equipped with 2.8L engines with automatic transmission may notice a rattling or clicking noise coming from the engine compartment. This noise is more apparent when the engine is cold and usually goes away as the engine warms up.
The above noise may be due to a warped torque converter shield. This warped shield may interfere with the flywheel.
The torque converter shield currently used on the Cutlass Supreme model has been released for use on 1985-87 Firenza models equipped with a 2.8L engine and automatic transmission. Refer to the illustration on the back of this bulletin.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
