Installation Procedure

Notice: The IAC valve may be damaged if installed with the cone (pintle) extended more than 28 mm (1-1/8 in). Measure the distance that the valve is extended before installing a new valve. The distance from the idle air control valve motor housing to the end of the idle air control valve pintle should be less than 28 mm (1-1/8 in). Manually compress the pintle until the extension is less than 28 mm (1-1/8 in).

    Object Number: 185626 Size: SH
  1. Install the new idle air control O-ring on the valve.

  2. Object Number: 255249 Size: SH
  3. Install the idle air control valve (2) into the throttle body.
  4. Install the idle air control valve attaching screws (3).
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
Tighten the idle air control valve attaching screws to 3.0 N·m (27 lb in).

    Object Number: 290670 Size: SH
  6. Install the electrical connector (4) into the idle air control valve (1).
  7. Install the EGR valve. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement .
  8. Install the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  9. The PCM will reset the idle air control valve whenever the ignition switch is turned ON, then OFF.
  10. Turn the ignition switch ON.
  11. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  12. Start the engine and allow the engine to reach operating temperature.
