DEFINITION: The BCM does not sound the key in ignition reminder when the driver's door is open, the key is fully inserted in the ignition switch cylinder, and the ignition switch is in the off or accessory position.

Was the BCM diagnostic system check performed?

  1. Make sure the I/P dimmer switch is off.
  2. Turn the ignition switch on.
  3. Lower the driver's window (to prevent lockout).
  4. Close all vehicle doors.
  5. While observing the courtesy lamps, open then close the driver's door.

Did the courtesy lamps turn on with the driver's door open?

  1. Make sure the I/P dimmer switch is off, and all the vehicle doors closed.
  2. Turn the ignition switch off.
  3. While observing the courtesy lamps, remove the key from the ignition switch.

Did the courtesy lamps turn on upon removing the key from the ignition switch?

  1. Connect a scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  2. Turn the ignition switch on.
  3. Using scan tool, monitor the key in switch input.

Does the scan tool indicate the key in input active with the key in the ignition switch?

  1. Place the key in the ignition cylinder.
  2. Make sure the ignition switch is off.
  3. Open, then close the driver's door.

Does the BCM sound the key in the ignition reminder?

  1. Insert the key fully in the ignition switch.
  2. Disconnect BCM connector C1.
  3. Using a test lamp, connect between B+ and the BCM connector C1 terminal D1.

Is the test lamp on?

  1. Disconnect the ignition switch harness connector C2.
  2. Using a test lamp, connect between B+ and the ignition switch harness connector C2 terminal E.

Is the test lamp on?

  1. Disconnect the BCM connector C1.
  2. Using a DMM, measure the resistance between the ignition switch harness connector C1 terminal D1 and the ignition switch harness connector C2 terminal E.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

Less than 2ohms

The key in ignition reminder is inoperative due to a malfunction between the BCM and the driver's door lock ajar switch. Refer to Interior Lamps System Check in Lighting Systems for diagnosis and repair of the interior lights door lock ajar input.

  1. Check the BCM connector C1 for poor terminal contact. If connector is OK, then replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System for replacement procedures.
  2. After BCM replacement, perform the Setup New BCM procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

  1. Replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement for service procedure.
  2. After ignition switch replacement, perform the theft deterrent relearn procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Reinstall the connectors/components removed.
  3. Check for BCM current DTCs. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Displaying in Body Control System.
