DEFINITION: The BCM does not sound the fasten seat belt reminder chime. Also, the instrument cluster does not turn on the fasten belts indicator lamp. the chime and lamp are inoperative when turning the ignition switch from the off to the on position with the driver's seat belt unfastened.

Was the BCM diagnostic system check performed?

  1. Connect a scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  2. Using scan tool, monitor the seat belt switch input.
  3. While observing the scan tool, fasten and release the driver's seat belt.

Does the scan tool indicate that the seat belt input is unbuckled with the driver's seat belt unfastened?

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Make sure the driver's seat belt is unfastened.
  3. While observing the fasten belts indicator lamp and listening to the chime, turn the ignition switch on.

Did the fasten seat belt reminder chime sound for 4-8 seconds and the indicator lamp turns on for 63-77 seconds? (Note: the fasten belts indicator lamp flashed for the last 50 seconds).

  1. Make sure the driver's seat belt is unfastened.
  2. Turn the ignition switch off.
  3. Disconnect the BCM connector C1.
  4. Using a test light, connect between B+ and the BCM connector C1 terminal C11 by backprobing.

Is the test light on?

  1. Disconnect the driver's seat belt switch electrical connector.
  2. Using a test light, connect between B+ and the driver's seat belt switch harness connector terminal B (male side of connector).

Is the test light on?

Using a DMM, measure the resistance between the driver's seat belt switch connector terminals A and B (switch side). Note: Make sure the seat belt is unbuckled.

Is the resistance measured within the specified range?

Less than 2ohms

The malfunction is not present at this time. Refer to Audible Warnings Circuit Description for additional information regarding the operation of the fasten seat belt reminder, and indicator lamp.

  1. Inspect the BCM connector C1 terminal C11 for a poor connection.
  2. If the connection is OK, then replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System for service procedures.
  3. After BCM replacement, perform the Setup New BCM procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

Replace the driver's seat belt buckle. Refer to Seat Belt Buckle Replacement - Left Front in Seats for service procedure.

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Reinstall the connectors/components removed.
  3. Check for BCM current DTCs. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Displaying in Body Control System.

Are there any BCM current DTCs present?
