Caution:  When a hood hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

1. Open and support the hood.



2. Using a small flat-bladed tool, lift up the retainer clips on the hood assist rod.

Important: Pressure to remove or attach the hood assist rod ends must be placed at end of the hood assist rod that is being removed or attached. Do not apply pressure to mid section of the hood assist rod when removing or installing. This will bend and damage the hood assist rod.




3. Pull the upper end of hood assist rod from the ball joint on hood.
4. Pull the lower end of the hood assist rod from the ball joint on the lower hood hinge.

Important: Pressure to remove or attach the hood assist rod ends must be placed at end of the hood assist rod that is being removed or attached. Do not apply pressure to mid section of the hood assist rod when removing or installing. This will bend and damage the hood assist rod.




1. Install the upper end of the hood assist rod support to the ball joint on hood.
2. Install the lower end of the hood assist rod to ball joint on the lower hood hinge
3. Remove the support from the hood.
4. Close the hood.
