When the air conditioning compressor is serviced, the generator must be removed. This allows for an interchange of the attaching bolts. If the air conditioning compressor attaching bolts are used to attach the generator to the engine assembly, an interference is encountered before proper torque is achieved, and a subsequent cracked engine head may be the result.
The air conditioning compressor attaching bolts are 65 mm (2.5 in) long. The generator attaching bolts, P/N 12558813, are 59 mm (2.3 in) long.
Discard the long 65 mm (2.5 in) bolts any time the compressor is removed and install two new 59 mm (2.3 in) bolts. This will eliminate the potential of cracking the engine block any time the generator is replaced.
Important: Measurements are from the back of the bolt head and washer to the tip of the bolt.
