Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the Display Trip Reset Sw. parameter in the IPC Data list.

Does the Display Trip Reset Sw. parameter display Off?

Go to Step 3

  1. Press the TRIP RESET switch.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Display Trip Reset Sw. parameter.

Does the Display Trip Reset Sw. parameter display On?

Go to Step 4

Press the TRIP ODO switch.

Does the odometer toggle between trip and season?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the trip odometer reset switch connector.
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the trip odometer reset switch signal circuit and a good ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in wiring systems.
  4. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the Display Trip Reset Sw. parameter.

Does the Display Trip Reset Sw. parameter display On?

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the trip odometer reset switch connector.
  3. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the Display Trip Reset Sw. parameter.

Does the Display Trip Reset Sw. parameter display Off?

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the trip odometer reset switch.
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the trip/season switch signal circuit and a good ground.
  4. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.

Does the odometer toggle between trip and season when the ground is applied and removed?

Test the trip odometer reset switch signal circuit for an open, for a high resistance, or for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the trip odometer reset switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the trip/season switch signal circuit for an open, for a high resistance, for a short to ground, or for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the trip odometer reset switch for an open or for a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
