Removal Procedure
Important: The starter motor is not serviceable and must be replaced as a complete
unit.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the front lower air deflector. Refer to
Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement
in Engine
Cooling.
- Remove the S terminal
nut (1) from the starter solenoid.
- Remove the S terminal wiring harness connector from the starter
solenoid.
- Remove the BAT terminal nut (4) from the starter solenoid.
- Remove the BAT terminal wiring harness connector (3) from
the starter solenoid.
- Remove the torque converter cover. Refer to
Torque Converter Cover Replacement
in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
- Remove the starter motor
bolts (1).
- Remove the starter motor (2).
Installation Procedure
- Install the starter motor (2).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the starter motor bolts (1).
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the torque converter cover. Refer to
Torque Converter Cover Replacement
in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
- Install the BAT terminal
wiring harness connector (3) to the starter solenoid BAT terminal.
- Install the BAT terminal nut (4).
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the S terminal wiring harness connector (2) to
the starter solenoid S terminal.
- Install the S terminal nut (1).
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 2 N·m (20 lb in).
- Install the front lower air deflector. Refer to
Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement
in Engine
Cooling.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
