Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 699549  Size: SH

    Notice: Cap the fittings and plug the holes when servicing the fuel system in order to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering the open pipes and passages.

    Important: Always maintain cleanliness when servicing the fuel system components.

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Raise the and support vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  4. Important: There is no service interval for in-pipe fuel filter replacement. Only replace the in-pipe fuel filter if the filter is restricted.

  5. Remove the threaded nut fitting from the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter.
  6. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.

  8. Remove the fuel filter bracket bolt.
  9. Remove the fuel filter from the bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 699548  Size: SH

    Notice: Always re-attach the fuel lines and fuel filter with all original type fasteners and hardware.

    Do not repair sections of fuel pipes.

  1. Remove the protective caps from the new fuel filter.
  2. Install the fuel filter to the bracket.
  3. Install the fuel filter and the mounting bracket.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the fuel filter mounting bracket bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft)

  7. Connect the quick-connect fitting to the inlet of the fuel filter. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  8. Install the threaded nut fitting to the outlet of the fuel filter. Use a back-up wrench in order to prevent the in-pipe fuel filter from turning.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the threaded nut fitting to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  12. Inspect the fuel system for leaks by performing the following steps:
  13. 9.1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
    9.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    9.3. Turn ON the ignition.
    9.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  14. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
