Did you review the Lumbar Support Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Attempt to adjust the lumbar support up, down, in, and out.

Do all of the lumbar support functions operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Are all of the lumbar support functions inoperative?

Go to Step 4

Connect a test lamp to a good ground, and back probe the lumbar seat switch positive voltage supply circuit at the harness connector of the lumbar seat switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

  1. Disconnect the lumbar seat switch from the lumbar adjuster relays
  2. Connected a test lamp between a good ground and the lumbar adjuster switch signal circuit.
  3. Press the appropriate lumbar seat switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect the lumbar seat switch back.
  2. Disconnect the lumbar adjuster relays from the battery positive supply voltage of the lumbar adjuster relays.
  3. Connect the test lamp between a good ground and the battery positive supply circuit of the lumbar adjuster relays

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp to a battery voltage supply circuit, and back probe the common ground circuits of the vertical and horizontal relays

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the inoperative lumbar support motor.
  2. Connect a test lamp across the inoperative adjuster motor supply circuit terminals. at the lumbar adjuster relay connector.
  3. Press the inoperative lumbar adjuster switch in both directions.

Does the test lamp illuminate when the switch is pressed in both directions?

Go to Step 12

  1. Connect the Lumbar support motor.
  2. Disconnect the inoperative lumbar adjuster relay.
  3. Connect a test lamp from the positive voltage supply circuit terminal of the inoperative lumbar seat relays to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect the test lamp from the positive voltage supply circuit terminal to the ground circuit terminal in the inoperative lumbar adjuster relay connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect the test lamp from the inoperative switch signal circuit terminal in the lumbar adjuster relay connector to good ground.
  2. Press the inoperative lumbar adjuster switch.

Test and repair the inoperative lumbar support motor supply circuits for an open, high resistance, or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test and repair the inoperative lumbar adjuster switch signal circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the lumbar adjuster switch positive voltage supply circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open, high resistance, or short to ground in the positive voltage supply circuit to the lumbar adjuster relay. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in the common ground circuit of the lumbar support circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in the inoperative lumbar adjuster relay ground circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the lumbar adjuster relay.
