CAMPAIGN: INJ. PUMP GOVERNOR WEIGHT RETAINER ASSEMBLY

CARS AFFECTED

IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT A GROUP OF OLDSMOBILES PRODUCED AT THE FAIRFAX ASSEMBLY PLANT BETWEEN VIN'S CX 102265 AND CX 105607 WERE INADVERTENTLY LEFT OFF OF THE MASTER AND DEALER LIST.

A SUPPLEMENTAL LIST WILL BE MAILED TO THOSE DEALERS INVOLVED AND THE MASTER LIST AT ZONE OFFICES WILL BE UPDATED TO INCLUDE THESE ADDITIONAL VEHICLES.

CAMPAIGN POLICY

OLDSMOBILE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY ITS DEALERS FOR ALL GOVERNOR WEIGHT RETAINER ASSEMBLIES REPLACED IN VEHICLES INVOLVED IN THE SUBJECT CAMPAIGN REGARDLESS OF WHERE PERFORMED. STANADYNE, INC. WILL NOT PERFORM THE GOVERNOR WEIGHT RETAINER ASSEMBLY MODIFICATION UNDER WARRANTY.

DIESEL INJECTION PUMP WARRANTY COVERAGE IS OUTLINED IN DEALER MANAGEMENT BULLETIN 81-I-6.

IN CASE A VEHICLE INVOLVED IN THE CAMPAIGN COMES INTO THE SHOP WITH A MALFUNCTIONING PUMP THAT REQUIRES REPAIR BY A ROOSA MASTER REPAIR STATION AND THE OLDSMOBILE DEALER WISHES TO HAVE THE ROOSA MASTER REPAIR STATION MAKE THE CAMPAIGN MODIFICATION AT THE TIME THE PUMP IS BEING REPAIRED, THE OLDSMOBILE DEALER WILL FURNISH THE CAMPAIGN PARTS KIT TO THE ROOSA MASTER REPAIR STATION WITH THE PUMP TO BE REPAIRED. THE ROOSA MASTER REPAIR STATION WILL MAKE THE CAMPAIGN MODIFICATION AND CHARGE THE DEALER .4 HOUR LABOR.

PUMPS SUBLET

OLDSMOBILE DEALERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PERFORM THE CAMPAIGN CORRECTION IN THEIR DEALERSHIP. DEALERS MAY FIND IT NECESSARY TO SUBLET PUMPS TO ROOSA MASTER DEALER FOR THE CAMPAIGN CORRECTION. THE ROOSA MASTER DEALER WILL CHARGE FOR THE LABOR. THEIR CURRENT SUGGESTED LABOR TIME IS .9 HOUR. THE OLDSMOBILE DEALER WILL FURNISH THE PARTS KIT NO. 22518269. SUBMIT THE WARRANTY CLAIM FOR THE CAMPAIGN AS IF THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED IN YOUR SHOP, USING OPERATION NUMBER V1102. NO ADDITIONAL CLAIMS MAY BE SUBMITTED FOR ADDITIONAL CHARGES.

RETURN OF PARTS

OLDSMOBILE DEALERS ARE REQUESTED TO RETAIN THE GOVERNOR WEIGHT RETAINER ASSEMBLY AND RELATED PARTS FOR DISPOSITION BY ZONE PERSONNEL. ROOSA MASTER REPAIR STATIONS HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTED TO RETURN THE CAMPAIGN PARTS TO THE OLDSMOBILE DEALER.

LOCATION OF RED PAINT ON TIMING WRENCH BOSS

TO CLARIFY THE LOCATION OF THE DAUB OF RED PAINT ON THE INJECTION PUMP THAT IDENTIFIES A CORRECTED PUMP, REFER TO FIG. 1A. THE PAINT IS LOCATED ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE ILLUSTRATION. THERE MAY BE RED SEALER ON THE COVER OR OTHER PARTS OF THE HOUSING, BUT THIS DOES NOT INDICATE A CORRECTED PUMP AND SHOULD NOT BE MISTAKEN FOR THE RED PAINT ON THE WRENCH BOSS. SHOULD THERE STILL BE DOUBT, AFTER MAKING THE "C" STICKER AND RED PAIN INSPECTION, THE PUMP COVER COULD BE REMOVED AND THE GOVERNOR WEIGHT CAGE CAN BE EXAMINED "BY FEELING" FOR THE PRESENCE OF THE RETAINER PIN SPRINGS ON THE FRICTION DRIVE ASSEMBLY.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
