REAR COMPARTMENT LID DOES NOT STAY OPEN

SUBJECT: REAR COMPARTMENT LID DOES NOT STAY OPEN (ADJUST TORQUE RODS)

MODELS: 1994-95 OLDSMOBILE NINETY EIGHT WITH REAR COMPARTMENT LID TORQUE ROD SYSTEM

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID MAY DRIFT DOWN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED ON AN INCLINE OR IF A STRONG WIND CATCHES THE LID.

CAUSE:

THE INITIAL SETTING OF THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID TORQUE RODS DOES NOT PROVIDE SUFFICIENT TENSION TO HOLD THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID IN THE OPEN POSITION.

CORRECTION:

ADJUST REAR COMPARTMENT LID TORQUE RODS USING TORQUE ROD ADJUSTMENT TOOL, J-41358-1, TO INCREASE TORQUE ROD OUTPUT. REFER TO FIGURE 1.
