Removal Procedure

  1. Start the engine.
  2. With the engine at idle speed and the transmission in (P) Park or (N) Neutral, observe any vibration.
  3. Shut off the engine.

  4. Object Number: 5425 Size: SH
  5. Remove the converter shield attaching bolts.
  6. Remove the flywheel to the torque converter attaching bolts.
  7. Rotate the torque converter 120 degrees (1/3 turn).

Installation Procedure

Notice: Some Engine/Transmission combinations cannot be balance in this manner, due to the limited clearances between the transmission torque converter bolts and the engine. Be sure that the bolts do not bottom out in the lug nuts, or the transmission converter cover could be dented, and cause internal damage.

    Object Number: 5425 Size: SH

Notice: If reusing the converter to flywheel bolts, coat the threads with Loctite® thread locking compound, or equivalent before installing the bolts.

  1. Install the flywheel to the converter attaching bolts.
  2. Tighten
Tighten the converter attaching bolts to 62 N·m (46 lb ft).

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the converter cover bolts.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the converter cover bolts to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

  5. Start the engine and check for vibration.
  6. Repeat the procedure until the best possible balance is obtained.
