DEFINITION: Starter Solenoid Clicks, Engine Does Not Crank

Important: 

   • Battery must be in a charged state to avoid misdiagnosis.
   • To avoid misdiagnosis, be sure to zero the DMM before taking measurements.

  1. Set the gear selector to PARK.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to START.
  3. Using a DMM, measure the voltage from the battery positive terminal to the starter solenoid terminal B.

Is the voltage less than 0.5 volt?

0 -  0.5 V

Go to Step 2

  1. Turn the ignition switch to START.
  2. Using a DMM, measure the voltage from the battery negative terminal to G111.

Is the voltage less than 0.5 volt?

0 -  0.5 V

Go to Step 3

Connect a remote starter switch between the starter solenoid terminal S and the battery positive terminal.

Does the starter crank?

Repair high resistance or poor connection in starter circuit.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

Replace the battery positive cable.
