  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Activate the windshield washer switch.

Does the windshield washer operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step  3

  1. Disconnect the windshield washer pump connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the windshield washer pump control circuit and the windshield washer pump ground circuit.
  3. Activate the windshield washer switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step  7

Test the windshield washer pump ground circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the windshield washer pump control circuit for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for a poor connection at the windshield wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for a poor connection at the windshield washer pump connector.Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.

Replace the windshield washer pump. Refer to Washer Pump Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
