RIGHT COOLING FAN STALL REPL. FAN/ADD UNDERBODY SCREEN

SUBJECT: RIGHT COOLING FAN STALL - REPLACE COOLING FAN AND ADD AN UNDERBODY SCREEN

MODEL/YEARS: 1990-92 TORONADO/TROFEO

Some 1990-1992 Toronado/Trofeos built prior to vehicle number NU304238 may exhibit a stalling condition of the right cooling fan. This may be due to ingestion of road debris by the fan motor. The aerodynamics of this vehicle allows ram air to be picked up from the road, which may be littered with plastic bags and wrappers. To prevent this condition from recurring, replace the damaged cooling fan (P/N 22088877) IF NECESSARY and add an underbody screen (P/N 3532321) which has been developed to protect the fan from ingesting road debris. To install the underbody screen refer to the illustration on the back of this bulletin, as well as the procedure below. Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

1. Raise the vehicle.

2. Remove five (10 mm) screws securing the air deflector.

3. Insert the screen into the upper fascia.

4. Install the rear of the screen above the air deflector and align the screen and deflector attachment holes.

5. Reinstall the screws to secure screen and deflector.

6. Lower the vehicle.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
