All 1986 'A' styles built after January 1986, have a rivet retained door glass sash channel. Prior 1986 'A' styles have the adhesive retained sash channel. Due to bottom edge of glass dimension changes, the subject door glasses must be replaced using the factory installed method. To replace an adhesive retained sash channel or door glass refer to Section 5 of the 1986 Body Service Manual.
The procedure to replace a rivet retained sash channel is as follows:
Removal (Fig. 1) ------- CAUTION: Safety glasses and work gloves should be worn to reduce the chance of personal injury should the glass break.
1. Remove door glass as specified in Section 5 of the 1986 Body Service Manual.
2. Place door glass on a protective surface.
3. Drill out rivets (item 7) using a 6.3mm (1.4 in.) drill bit.
4. Remove bushing assemblies (5), bushing retaining (6) and sash channel (3 or 4).
1. Bushing assemblies (5) through hole in glass (from outboard side of door glass).
*2. Bushing retainers (6) to bushing (5) from inboard side of glass.
3. Sash channel (3 or 4) to glass using 6.3mm (1/4 in.) x 13mm (1/2 in.) blind head rivets.
4. Door glass (1 or 2) as specified in Section 5 of the 1986 Body Service Manual.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
