Difficult Shifting from Park to Any Drive Range (Replace Shift Indicator Slide Within Floor Console)

Condition

Some customers may comment that it is difficult to shift from Park to any gear range.

Cause

Foreign substances such as pop, soda and coffee, can cause the shift indicator slide to stick making shifting difficult. When the shifter is moved, the slide becomes damaged. A revised shift indicator slide has been released.

Correction

Replace the shift indicator slide within the floor shifter using the following procedure:

  1. Position the Key to the "ON" position, apply the service brake and shift the shifter lever to the low or "1" Position.
  2. Key to the "OFF" position.
  3. Remove the shifter knob retaining clip and remove the shifter knob.

  4. Object Number: 621098  Size: SH
  5. Remove the rear cup holder liner and remove the screw.
  6. Lift the trim plate from the console and set to the side.
  7. Remove the three (3) seven mm screws which retain the light grey plastic of the shifter
  8. Lift the assembly from the vehicle.
  9. Important: Inspect the bottom side of the grey plastic support. A locating tab is on the left front position and a locating pin on the left rear position, down from the attaching screw location.

  10. Install the new assembly into position on the shifter. Position the locating tab and locating pin in the shifter assembly.
  11. Install the retaining screw above the locating tab, finger tight.
  12. Install the two right side retaining screws, finger tight.
  13. Slide the shifter handle back and forth while inspecting the location of the lever in the shifter slide opening. It should be centered the full length of travel.
  14. Tighten the three screws in the following order. Right front, left rear, right rear.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the (3) fastening screws to 2.00 N·m(18 lb in).

  16. Reinstall the console trim plate and insert the fastener.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the fastening screw to 2.00 N·m(18 lb in).

  18. Reinstall the shifter knob and reinsert the retaining clip.
