Radio Theftlock LED is Disabled (Reprogram Radio with Scan Tool)

Subject:Radio Theftlock® LED Is Disabled (Reprogram Radio with Scan Tool)

Models:2001 Pontiac Aztek
Built before December 1, 2000

This bulletin is being revised to include a new service procedure now available to enable the Theftlock® LED on the front panel of the radio. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 00-08-44-009 (Section 08 -- Body and Accessories).

Condition

The radio Theftlock® LED may not operate as described in the Owner's Manual. The radio will automatically secure itself as stated in the Owner's Manual, but the LED will not flash, as is common in other GM products.

Cause

The radio may have been programmed at the factory to disable the flashing LED. This was the design intent for this vehicle as the dashtop LED was intended as a higher visibility alert to thieves.

Correction

If the customer requests, the radio may be reprogrammed to flash the Theftlock® LED using the Tech 2 Scan Tool as described below:

  1. Attach the Tech 2 Scan Tool to the Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC).
  2. Press the POWER KEY.
  3. If the software version displayed on the Tech 2 is not equal to 21.002 or greater, update the Tech 2.
  4. Press ENTER.
  5. Select the DIAGNOSTICS MENU.
  6. Select LIGHT DUTY TRUCK and then B BODY.
  7. Select the RADIO SPECIAL FUNCTIONS choice.
  8. Select SET OPTIONS.
  9. Important: The next screen will give you specific instructions for radio options. The ENTER key will toggle an asterisk ON and OFF indicating that a feature is enabled or disabled.

  10. Choose to ENABLE the Theftlock® LED and use the SOFT key to SAVE the change.
  11. If a security code is stored, the radio LED will begin to flash in approximately 10 seconds.
  12. Turn OFF the Tech 2 Scan Tool and disconnect from the vehicle.
