Subject: | Service VME - Exterior Roof Panel Dimples with Overhead Console |
Models: | . |
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
Recent assembly plant audits and product reports indicate that certain 2004 Pontiac Aztek models may exhibit outward dimples in the center of the exterior roof panel corresponding with the retaining bolts for the DK6 overhead console assembly. The overhead console attaches to the roof crossbow using two fasteners threaded into plastic inserts snapped into square holes within the crossbow. Using proper torque, the attachment can contact the outer roof panel and cause the outward dimples. The assembly plant is now using a different one-piece plastic retainer and the original treaded fastener to eliminate this condition. If this condition is noted on vehicles in the field, technicians can modify part number 10309545 to prevent the damage to the roof. Technicians must grind the center locating tab off the part before using it to replace the individual plastic retainers in the roof crossbow. The original plastic retainers should be discarded and the one-piece modified retainer used with the original fasteners to retain the overhead console.
