Service VME - Tilt-Wheel Position Information - kw column steering tilt loose bumper wheel

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

A change was made to lower the position of the steering wheel air bag when the top position is selected and was made with start of 2004 MY production for Rendezvous and Aztek. The upper most tilt position was eliminated; however, the wheel will still travel until it contacts an internal bumper stop. Replacement of the steering column with a service part will NOT correct this condition. The column supplier is making a change to the bumper length which will reduce the travel and eliminate the feel that the steering wheel does not lock in the top position. Currently this change is scheduled for the late summer 2004 timeframe in production, and columns used for service will also have the revised bumper.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
