SUN ROOF WINDNOISE (INSTALL NEW AIR DEFLECTOR)

ASTRO ROOF WINDNOISE (NEW DEFLECTOR)

1987-88 BONNEVILLE

If a comment is received regarding air noise with the Astro Roof glass fully open at 35-55 mph, a new air deflector, Part Number 16605193 with three slots (see Figure 1) may be installed to minimize air noise.

The new deflector is currently being installed in production and will fit 1987 thru 1988 production.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Installation of the deflector requires the removal of the sunroof housing, per the 1988 Bonneville Service Manual, Section 8C-54 - Roof.

The new deflector has an actuator arm with an offset leg (see Figure 2). This deflector can be used without any change on 1987 into early 1988 production; these use the offset leg. Later 1988 production does not use an offset leg, and requires cutting off the offset (See Figure 2, dotted line).

WARRANTY INFORMATION

Use applicable labor operation and time from the Labor Time Guide.

If necessary to remove offset leg, list .3 hour in "Other Labor Hours" Column.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
