Electrical jumper harness wires in some 1989 Pontiac Bonneville SSE vehicles may rub on a metal pin protruding from the shifter in the console assembly. The affected part is the harness jumper (part number 12079033). If wires are worn through and shorted, the radio, instrument light, or accessory fuses may blow.
1. Repair any chafed or damaged wires in subject area as appropriate (i.e. retape chafed wires, splice broken wires, etc.).
2. Cover subject area of wire harness with electrical tape (as indicated on attached illustration).
Use applicable labor operation.
3. Tape wire harness to console base (in area of shifter pin movement - shown on illustration) with a large piece of durable tape with strong adhesion (i.e. duct tape or equivalent).
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
