OUTER REAR SEAT BELTS DIFFICULT TO FASTEN

SUBJECT: OUTER REAR SEAT BELTS DIFFICULT TO FASTEN (INSTALL PLASTIC SLEEVE ON BUCKLE WEBBING)

MODELS: 1997 BUICK LESABRE 1997 OLDSMOBILE EIGHTY EIGHT, LSS, REGENCY 1997 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT THE OUTER REAR SEAT BELTS ARE DIFFICULT TO FASTEN.

CAUSE:

THIS CONDITION MAY BE DUE TO THE BUCKLE PORTION OF THE BELT SLIPPING BACK BETWEEN THE SEAT BACK AND THE SEAT CUSHION.

CORRECTION:

INSTALL PLASTIC SLEEVE ON THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE WEBBING.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:

1. REMOVE THE REAR SEAT CUSHION FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURE IN SECTION 10-10 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL.

2. REMOVE THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ANCHOR NUT FROM THE STUD IN THE FLOOR PAN.

3. REMOVE THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ANCHOR TAB FROM THE STUD.

4. ATTACH THE PLASTIC SLEEVE, P/N 25675181, TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BELT BUCKLE WEBBING. ENSURE THAT THE WEBBING IS FULLY ENGAGED IN THE SLOT BY PULLING ON THE WEBBING SO THAT IT COVERS THE FULL WIDTH OF THE SLOT.

5. REINSTALL THE SEAT BELT ANCHOR TAB OVER THE STUD IN THE FLOOR PAN.

6. REINSTALL THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ANCHOR NUT. TORQUE THE NUT TO 40 N.M (30 LB FT).

7. REINSTALL THE REAR SEAT CUSHION FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURE IN SECTION 10-10 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL.
