The floor pan insulation design takes into account the
floor pan temperature. The floor pan temperature changes with the usage of
the catalytic converters of the exhaust system. If you remove or disturb
any insulators, install the insulators in the original sequence and location.
If you replace an insulator, use the material specified for the particular
location on the floor pan. The types of materials are listed below:
• | The floor pan insulator (cerra blanket thermal) consists of 10 mm
(3/8 in) thick aluminum silica (type 1). The floor pan insulator (cerra
blanket thermal) is rolled stock which is ordered by the linear foot and
cut to fit. |
• | The floor pan insulator (amberlite) consists of 10 mm (3/8 in)
thick resonated fibers (type 2). The floor pan insulator (amberlite) is rolled
stock which is ordered by the linear foot and cut to fit. |
• | The floor pan insulator sheet (phenolic bonded fiberglass) 305 mm
by 457 mm (12 in by 18 in) cut to size (type 3). |
Caution: All floor pan insulator material must meet Federal Vehicle Safety Standards for flammability. Failure to do so could result in personal injury and/or vehicle damage.
Follow the following instructions when servicing or replacing the interior
insulators:
• | Butt together the insulators in order to avoid gaping or overlapping. |
• | Use the specified material of the same thickness and size. Install
the insulators in the original location. |
• | Use the original part as a template when cutting and fitting the
replacement insulators. |
• | Do NOT enlarge the holes or the cutouts used for the attachment
of the interior components, such as seats or seat belts. |
• | Route the electrical wiring harnesses over the insulator in the
original position. Clip the electrical wiring harnesses into place. |
• | Do NOT apply spray-on adhesives or deadeners to the top of the
floor pan area which is directly over the catalytic converter or the muffler. |
