Front Bumper Replacement Oldsmobile 88

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 312280  Size: SH
  3. Remove the front park/turn lamp bulb sockets.
  4. Remove the front side marker lamp bulb sockets.
  5. Remove the screws that retain the wheelhouse to the fascia.
  6. Remove the nuts (4) that retain the front bumper fascia (3) to the fender.

  7. Object Number: 312288  Size: SH
  8. Remove the nuts that retain the front impact bar (3) to the energy absorbers.
  9. Remember the number and the location of the shims.
  10. Remove the front bumper from the vehicle with the assistance of a helper.
  11. Remove the push-in retainers (5) that connect the fascia to the impact bar (3).
  12. Remove the fascia from the impact bar (3).
  13. Remove the push-in retainers (5) that connects the fascia supports (2) to the impact bar.
  14. Remove the fascia supports (2) from the impact bar (3).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 312288  Size: SH
  1. Install the lower fascia supports (2) to the impact bar (3).
  2. Install the push-in retainers (1) in order to retain the lower fascia supports to the impact bar.
  3. Install the fascia to the impact bar.
  4. Install the push-in retainers (1) that retain the fascia to the impact bar (3).
  5. Install the front bumper onto the vehicle with the assistance of a helper.
  6. Loosely install the nuts in order to retain the front impact bar (3).

  7. Object Number: 312280  Size: SH
  8. Install the nuts (4) in order to retain the fascia (3) to the fenders.

  9. Object Number: 312288  Size: SH
  10. Install the shims at the original locations.
  11. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  12. Install the nuts that retain the impact bar (3).
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  14. Install the front park/turn lamp bulb sockets.
  15. Install the front side marker lamp bulb sockets.
  16. Install the screws that retain the wheelhouse to the fascia (3).
  17. Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Replacement .
  18. Lower the vehicle.
