J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  2. Object Number: 419283  Size: SH
  3. Remove the A/C evaporator hose from the retaining clips.
  4. Loosen the condenser hose nut.

  5. Object Number: 422255  Size: SH
  6. Separate the A/C hose at the expansion tube location.

  7. Object Number: 247323  Size: SH
  8. Remove the expansion tube from the line.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 247323  Size: SH

    Important: Lubricate the new expansion tube O-ring with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil before installing into the evaporator hose.

  1. Install the new expansion tube. Ensure that the short screen and arrow face toward the evaporator.

  2. Object Number: 422255  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Connect the A/C evaporator tube to the condenser tube.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  5. Install the A/C evaporator hose to the retaining clips.
  6. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  7. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .
