Subject: | HUD Intermittently Does Not Display Radio Frequency |
Models: | . |
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
When using the seek up/down button on either the steering wheel controls or the radio, or when using the preset buttons to change the radio frequency, 50 percent of the time the radio frequency will not display in the HUD. This period of time that the radio frequency is not displayed can vary from several seconds to an hour. The radio is not sending out the channel information to the HUD over class 2.
The cause of this condition is the BAND TIMER software internal to the radio is not initialized properly on a warm start. The Band Timer waits for the time to expire before the messages (used to trigger the HUD display of radio frequency) are being allowed to be sent.
This concern is being corrected in production by updating the radio software. Vehicles produced in January 2003 will have updated software. Vehicles in the field must replace the radio to correct this concern. Service radios will be available in the mid-February time frame.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
