Condition
Some customers may comment that the one or both of the fog lamps are inoperative or the bulbs burn out prematurely.
Cause
The cause of this condition may be due to the bulb being exposed to heat greater than their specification. This increased heat will crack the glass crimp, allowing gases in the bulb to leak out.
Correction
Replace the affected fog lamp bulb(s) and the forward lamp wiring harness assembly using the procedure listed below.
- Remove the headlamp fasteners.
- Using a pry bar, gently pry in the center area of the headlamp assembly. Pry the headlamp assembly straight forward in order to unsnap the headlamp ball stud from the ball stud socket.
- Slide the headlamp straight forward and disconnect the headlamp electrical connector.
- Remove the headlamp from the vehicle.
- Repeat Steps 1 through 4 in order to remove the other headlamp.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the retainers and the front air deflector.
- Disconnect all the underbody forward lamp wiring harness clips and connectors.
- Replace the affected fog lamp bulb(s).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the underhood fuse block from its mount.
- Remove the bolt and disconnect the forward lamp wiring harness connector from the fuse block.
- Remove the ground pack from the radiator support.
- Remove the forward lamp wiring harness from the vehicle.
- Install the forward lamp wiring harness to the vehicle.
- Install the ground pack to the radiator support.
- Connect the forward lamp wiring harness connector to the fuse block and install the bolt.
- Install the underhood fuse block to its mount.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Connect all the underbody forward lamp wiring harness clips and connectors.
- Install the front air deflector and retainers.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the electrical connector to the headlamp.
- Position the headlamp in order to align the locator pins with the headlamp mounting bracket.
- Press the headlamp rearward in order to engage the ball stud with the ball stud socket.
- Install the headlamp fasteners.
- Repeat the above steps to install the other headlamp.
