  1. Turn the ignition OFF, with the key in the ignition.
  2. Open the driver door.

Does the chime sound?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Open the driver door.

Does the DOOR AJAR indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 4

Go to Door Ajar Indicator Malfunction in Doors

  1. Turn the radio ON.
  2. Adjust the radio balance and fade to the left front speaker.

Does the speaker operate properly?

Go to Step 5

Go to Speakers Inoperative - One or More in Entertainment

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With the scan tool, observe the Key In Ignition parameter in the instrument panel integration module (IPM) (with CJ2) or the climate control panel (CCP) (with C67) Non - HVAC data list.

Does the Key In Ignition parameter display Yes?

Go to Step 13

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the IPM connector C1 (with CJ2) or the HVAC control module (with C67).
  3. Connect a test lamp between the key in ignition signal circuit and battery positive voltage.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 10

Test the key in ignition signal circuit for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the ignition key alarm switch for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the ignition switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
