SOME EARLY BUILD FIERO VEHICLES (PRIOR TO JANUARY 1984) MAY EXPERIENCE AN INOPERATIVE CONDITION IN THE SPEEDOMETER, OR CRUISE CONTROL UNIT. THIS CONDITION MAY BE CAUSED BY A LOOSE INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEEDOMETER EDGE BOARD CONNECTOR AT THE BASE OF THE CLUSTER ASSEMBLY. TO DIAGNOSE THE INOPERATIVE CONDITION, CHECK FOR A PROPERLY SEATED CONNECTOR. IF IT IS NOT PROPERLY SEATED, A FOAM GASKET SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE CLUSTER TO REMOVE EXCESS CLEARANCES BETWEEN THE CLUSTER AND CONNECTOR . IF THE CONDITION STILL EXISTS AND IS ISOLATED TO THE SPEEDOMETER ASSEMBLY, AFTER COMPLETING THE PROPER DIAGNOSIS, THE SPEEDOMETER ASSEMBLY SHOULD BE SENT TO AN AUTHORIZED AC-DELCO SERVICE CENTER FOR REPAIR. REFER TO CLUSTER REPLACEMENT BULLETIN 84-8-1A, "QUARTZ SPEEDOMETER - 1984 FIERO" FOR LOCATIONS OF THE SERVICE CENTERS.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
