On late production Fiero models, a white cap switch (Figure 1), is replaced with a new black cap switch (Figure 2). Part number 20545277. All new production Fiero vehicles are equipped with the new black cap switch.
On early production Fiero models, a black plunger switch (Figure 3), was used. A replacement to this original switch is pending. A new bulletin will be published when a replacement switch becomes available. Bending the bracket upward will aid in preventing ajar light concerns until the replacemnt switch is available (Approximately March 1985).
Do not over-torque the nut and do not over-enlarge the bracket hoel by over-working the drill bit.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
