CLUTCH CHATTER IN REVERSE REVISED PART NUMBER

Subject: CLUTCH CHATTER IN REVERSE GEAR - 1982 FIREBIRD WITH 2.8L V-6 ENGINE AND 76MM MANUAL FOUR-SPEED TRANSMISSION

The clutch linkage in 1982 Firebirds equipped with 2.8L V-6 engine and 76mm manual transmission was revised during the model year. The clutch lever assembly lower lever angle was changed to reduce the possibility of clutch chatter occurring.

On vehicles that have reverse clutch chatter, observe the lever assembly lower lever and compare it to the illustration shown below. If the vehicle does not have the revised lever assembly (part number 14056673), it will be necessary to install the following new parts along with the revised lever assembly.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
