Torque Converter Clutch Electrical Controls
The torque converter clutch (TCC) system uses controls that are internal
as well as external to the to the transmission. For internal control components
of the TCC system, refer to Automatic Transmission Diagnosis for the Hydraulic
Diagnosis Charts, wiring diagrams, and switch locations.
The external control components of the TCC system include the following:
• | Brake Release Switch- In order to avoid stalling the engine when
braking, the converter clutch is released any time the brakes are applied. |
• | Powertrain Control Module or Vehicle Control Module- Receives
input signals and grounds TCC solenoid in order to apply the clutch when the
proper operating conditions are met. |
• | Throttle Position Sensor- Sends throttle position information
to the Powertrain Control Module or the Vehicle Control Module. |
• | Vehicle Speed Sensor- Sends the vehicle speed information to the
Powertrain Control Module or the Vehicle Control Module. |
• | Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor- Sends engine coolant temperature
information to the Powertrain Control Module or the Vehicle Control Module. |
