Exhaust Manifold Replacement Right Side

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 39909  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to SECTION 0A.
  3. Disconnect the oxygen sensor electrical connector.
  4. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  5. Remove the right side oxidation catalytic converter. Refer to SECTION 6F.

  7. Remove the oil level indicator and tube.
  8. Remove the three rear exhaust manifold bolts and spacers.
  9. Lower the vehicle.

  10. Object Number: 39100  Size: SH
  11. Remove the secondary air injection pipe from the exhaust manifold.
  12. Remove the EGR valve pipe. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement in Engine Controls.
  13. Remove the generator and the rear lower brace. Refer to SECTION 6D3.

  14. Object Number: 39102  Size: SH
  15. Remove the remaining exhaust manifold studs, bolt and spacers.
  16. Remove the exhaust manifold and the exhaust manifold gasket.
  17. Clean the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 39102  Size: SH
  1. Install the exhaust manifold and gasket.
  2. Install the front three exhaust manifold studs, bolt and spacers.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust manifold studs, and the bolt to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  4. Install the generator and the rear lower brace. Refer to SECTION 6D3.
  5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to SECTION 0A.
  6. Install the remaining exhaust manifold bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  8. Connect the oxygen sensor electrical connector.

  10. Install the oil level indicator tube and indicator.
  11. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  12. Install the right side oxidation catalytic converter. Refer to SECTION 6F.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Install the EGR valve pipe. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement in Engine Controls.

  15. Object Number: 39100  Size: SH
  16. Install the secondary air injection pipe to the exhaust manifold.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the secondary air injection pipe to 55 N·m (47 lb ft).

  18. Connect the negative battery cable.

Exhaust Manifold Replacement Left Side

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to SECTION 0A.
  3. Disconnect the oxygen sensor electrical connector.
  4. Remove the left side oxidation catalytic converter. Refer to SECTION 6F.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Remove the brake booster vacuum hose.

  8. Remove the secondary air injection pipe from the exhaust manifold.
  9. Remove the accelerator control/cruise control servo cable adjuster. Refer to SECTION 5E2.

  10. Object Number: 39109  Size: SH
  11. Remove the exhaust manifold bolts, spacers and stud.
  12. Remove the exhaust manifold and the exhaust manifold gasket.
  13. Clean the exhaust manifold and cylinder head sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 39109  Size: SH
  1. Install the exhaust manifold and gasket.
  2. Install the exhaust manifold bolts, spacers and stud.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts and stud to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  4. Connect the oxygen sensor electrical connector.
  5. Install the accelerator control/cruise control servo cable adjuster. Refer to SECTION 5E2.

  6. Object Number: 39108  Size: SH
  7. Install the secondary air injection pipe to the exhaust manifold.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the secondary air injection pipe to 55 N·m (47 lb ft).

  9. Install the brake booster vacuum hose.
  10. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to SECTION 0A.
  11. Install the left side oxidation catalytic converter. Refer to SECTION 6F.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
