Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Right Side

1. Disconnect the secondary air injection (AIR) pump hose from the check valve hose.



2. Remove the AIR check valve hose clamps and hose.



3. Remove the AIR pipe (with check valve), bolts and gasket from the right exhaust manifold.



4. Disconnect the ignition coil harness main electrical connector.



5. Remove the spark plug wires from the ignition coils.
6. Remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.



7. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve pipe from the rocker cover.
8. Remove the PCV valve pipe strap nut, if needed.
9. Remove the PCV valve pipe from the intake manifold, if needed.
10. Remove the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Removal (Right Side) .

1. Install the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation (Right Side) .
2. Install the PCV valve pipe to the intake manifold, if removed.
3. Install the PCV valve pipe strap nut, if removed.

Tighten
Tighten the PCV valve pipe strap nut to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

4. Install the PCV valve pipe to the rocker cover.



5. Install the spark plug wires to the spark plugs.
6. Install the spark plug wires to the ignition coils.

Important: Position the plug wire to avoid contact with the exhaust manifold.




7. Connect the ignition coil harness main electrical connector.



8. Install the AIR pipe (with check valve), bolts and gasket to the right exhaust manifold.

Tighten
Tighten the AIR pipe bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).




9. Install the AIR check valve hose and clamps.



10. Connect the AIR pump hose to the check valve hose.



11. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Left Side

1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
2. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail.
3. Disconnect the vapor line from the fuel vapor purge valve.



4. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve pipe from the rocker cover.
5. Disconnect the coil harness main electrical connector.



6. Remove the spark plug wires from the ignition coils.
7. Remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.



8. Disconnect the secondary air injection (AIR) pump hose from the check valve hose.



9. Remove the AIR check valve hose clamps and hose.



10. Remove the AIR pipe (with check valve), bolts and gasket from the left exhaust manifold.
11. Remove the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Removal (Left Side) .

1. Install the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation (Left Side) .
2. Install the AIR pipe (with check valve), bolts and gasket to the left exhaust manifold.

Tighten
Tighten the AIR pipe bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).




3. Install the AIR check valve hose and clamps.



4. Connect the AIR pump hose to the check valve hose.



5. Install the spark plug wires to the spark plugs.
6. Install the spark plug wires to the ignitions coils.
7. Connect the coil harness main electrical connector.



8. Install the PCV valve pipe to the rocker cover.



9. Install the fuel line to the fuel rail.
10. Install the vapor line to the fuel vapor purge valve.
