Battery Negative Cable Replacement 3.8L Engine

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 657940  Size: SH
  1. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .
  2. Remove the ground terminal bolt on the wheelhouse.

  3. Object Number: 211593  Size: SH
  4. Remove the battery cable clip from the accumulator bracket.

  5. Object Number: 43679  Size: SH
  6. Remove the negative cable nut at the engine block stud.
  7. Remove the negative cable from the engine block stud.
  8. Remove the negative cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 43679  Size: SH
  1. Install the negative cable to the vehicle.
  2. Install the negative cable onto the engine block stud.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the negative cable nut to the engine block stud.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the negative cable nut to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  6. Install the battery cable clip to the accumulator bracket.

  7. Object Number: 657940  Size: SH
  8. Position the ground lead.
  9. Install the ground terminal bolt to the wheelhouse.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the ground terminal bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  11. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .

Battery Negative Cable Replacement 5.7L Engine

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 657940  Size: SH
  1. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .
  2. Remove the ground terminal bolt.

  3. Object Number: 211593  Size: SH
  4. Remove the battery cable clip from the accumulator bracket.

  5. Object Number: 211595  Size: SH
  6. Remove the ground lead bolt (1) at the engine block.
  7. Remove the negative cable from the harness conduit.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 211595  Size: SH
  1. Install the negative cable to the harness conduit.
  2. Position the ground lead (2).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the ground lead bolt (1) at the engine block.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the ground lead bolt to 32 N·m (24 lb ft).

  6. Install the battery cable clip to the accumulator bracket.

  7. Object Number: 657940  Size: SH
  8. Position the ground lead.
  9. Install the ground terminal bolt to the wheelhouse.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the ground terminal bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  11. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .
