- Clean all the parts in
a suitable solvent. Air dry all the parts.
- Inspect the gear sets for:
• | High spots (small shiny spots on the gear teeth mating surface)
that could cause gear noise |
• | Damaged splines on the main drive gear or on the mainshaft |
- Inspect the reverse gear
set.
- Inspect the gear tooth surfaces on all the gear sets. Look for
the following conditions:
• | High spots (small-shiny spots on the gear teeth mating surface)
that could cause gear noise |
• | Damaged splines on the main drive gear or on the mainshaft |
- Remove nicks and burrs with a soft stone or a crocus cloth.
- Replace a burred or nicked part that cannot be reconditioned by
hand.
- Replace gears and gear assemblies that are worn or damaged.
