Cleaning Procedure

Notice: Do not place the following components in a solvent or cleaner bath:

   â€¢ The Throttle Position (TP) sensor
   â€¢ The fuel pressure regulator diaphragm assembly
   â€¢ The fuel injector
   â€¢ Any other components containing rubber or electrical parts
Do not soak the TBI unit with these components attached. Keep the soaking time in the cleaner to a minimum if the TBI unit requires cleaning. Follow these instructions in order to avoid damage to the TBI unit and component parts.

       Important: Use only Carbon X (X-55) or an equivalent cold immersion cleaner for soaking the throttle body fuel injection (TBI) unit assemblies.

    â€¢ Soak the metal parts of the TBI assemblies in a cleaner bath if necessary.
    â€¢ Remove any dirt or burns from the fuel and air passages in the TBI assemblies.

       Caution: Wear safety glasses when using compressed air in order to prevent eye injury.

    â€¢ Dry all metal components with compressed air.
    â€¢ Clean the passages and the fuel injector chamber with compressed air.

Inspection Procedure

    â€¢ Inspect the casting mating surfaces for damage that will affect proper gasket sealing.
    â€¢ Inspect the throttle valve and throttle shaft for free and smooth movement.
    â€¢ Inspect the fuel injector inlet filter for dirt or damage. If dirt is present check for foreign materials in the fuel pipes and the fuel tank. Repair as necessary.
