automatic transmission is removed for service. The flushing procedure should
be performed after the installation of the overhauled or replacement
transmission. Failure to flush the system may cause damage to the system and
its components.
Important: Before installing
the transaxle assembly apply grease around the cup at the center of the torque converter
(1). This will ensure ease of assembly.
- Measure the distance (2) shown in the figure. The distance should be
more than 21.4 mm (0.85 inch). If the distance is less than
21.4 mm (0.85 inch), the torque converter is improperly installed.
Reseat the torque converter properly onto the input shaft.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
