Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the two crankcase vent hoses from the valve rocker-arm cover.
  3. Remove the two ignition coils (4) and the secondary spark plug wires from the valve rocker-arm cover.
  4. Remove the six valve cover bolts (1).

  6. Remove the valve rocker-arm cover (2) from the cylinder head.
  7. Remove the valve rocker-arm cover gasket (1) and the seals (3) from the valve cover.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the new gasket (1) to the valve rocker-arm cover (2).
  2. Install the new seals (3) to the valve rocker-arm cover (2).

  4. Install the valve rocker-arm cover to the cylinder head.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Secure the valve rocker-arm cover with the six bolts (1).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the valve rocker-arm cover bolts to 11N·m (97 lb in).

  8. Install the two ignition coils and the secondary spark plug wires to the valve rocker-arm cover.
  9. Install the two crankcase vent hoses to the valve rocker-arm cover.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
