Important: The upper bearing inserts have an engine oil groove (3). Install the inserts and the bearings with the engine oil groove to the cylinder block.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Important: Gradual tightening and uniform tightening is important for main bearing bolts. After tightening the main bearing cap bolts, inspect the bolts in order to check that the crankshaft rolls smoothly when turned by hand.
Each main bearing cap is embossed with an arrow mark and with a number. When installing each bearing cap to the cylinder block, point the arrow mark toward the crankshaft timing pulley side.
Tighten
Tighten the main bearing cap bolts to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).
