Removal Procedure
Caution: In order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury observe the
following items:
• | Replace all nylon fuel pipes that are nicked, scratched or damaged
during installation, do not attempt to repair the sections of the nylon fuel
pipes |
• | Do not hammer directly on the fuel harness body clips when installing
new fuel pipes. Damage to the nylon pipes may result in a fuel leak. |
• | Always cover nylon vapor pipes with a wet towel before using a
torch near them. Also, never expose the vehicle to temperatures higher than
115°C (239°F) for more than one hour, or more than 90°C (194°F)
for any extended period. |
• | Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male pipe ends before
connecting fuel pipe fittings. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent
a possible fuel leak. (During normal operation, the O-rings located in the
female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.) |
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Disconnect the clamp and the fuel feed outlet hose from the fuel
feed pipe near the fuel tank.
- Disconnect the clamp and the fuel return hose from the fuel return
pipe near the fuel tank.
- Disconnect the clamp and the fuel vapor hose from the fuel vapor
pipe near the fuel tank.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Disconnect the clamp and
the fuel feed hose (2) from the fuel feed pipe in the engine compartment.
- Disconnect the clamp and the fuel return hose (3) from
the fuel return pipe in the engine compartment.
- Disconnect the fuel vapor hose (1) from the fuel vapor
pipe in the engine compartment.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the 6 nuts (1) and the 3 sections of pipe guards (2)
from the vehicle underbody.
- Apply pressure (1)
to the corners of the pipe clamps (2) in order to release the pipes.
- Remove the fuel feed,
the fuel return, and the fuel vapor pipes (2) from the pipe clamps (3).
Leave the brake lines (1) secure.
Installation Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Install the fuel feed pipe, the fuel return pipe, and the fuel
vapor pipe into the pipe clamps on the vehicle underbody.
- Insert the pipe clamp
arms (3) into the center slot (1) of the pipe clamp.
- Press the pipe clamp arms (2) into the locked position.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the 3 sections
of the guard (2) over the fuel pipes and over the brake pipes. Secure
the pipe guard with the 6 nuts (1).
Tighten
Tighten the pipe guard nuts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the fuel vapor hose to the fuel vapor pipe in the engine
compartment.
- Connect the fuel return hose to the fuel return pipe in the engine
compartment. Secure the hose with one clamp. Connect the fuel feed hose to
the fuel feed pipe in the engine compartment. Secure the hose with one clamp.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Connect the fuel vapor hose to the fuel vapor pipe near the fuel
tank. Secure the hose with one clamp.
- Connect the fuel return hose to the fuel return pipe near the
fuel tank.
- Connect the fuel feed outlet hose to the fuel feed pipe near the
fuel tank.
