Removal Procedure

    Notice: When you remove damaged or worn countershaft bearings from the countershaft, you must replace the old bearings with new bearings. Under no circumstances may you repair or reinstall worn or damaged bearings.

  1. Remove the countershaft ball bearing snap ring found in the rear of the transaxle case.
  2. Remove the countershaft ball bearing backing plate.
  3. Using a J 23907 and a J 29369 , remove the rear countershaft ball bearing.
  4. • Insert the J 29369 inside the bearing and adjust the remover outward until the remover has a firm grasp on the bearing.
    • Using the J 23907 , gently tap the bearing out of the case.

  5. Remove the countershaft roller bearing snap ring (7068) which is found in the front of the transaxle case. This will expose the countershaft roller bearing (7069).

  6. Object Number: 143347  Size: SH
  7. Using a J 23907 and a J 29369-2 , remove the countershaft roller bearing (7069).
  8. • Insert the J 29369-2 inside the bearing and adjust the remover outward until the remover has a firm grasp on the bearing.
    • Using the J 23907 , gently tap the bearing out of the case.

  9. Remove the countershaft roller bearing spacer (7070).
  10. Inspect the following parts:
  11. • The case bores for cracks, scars or overheating
    • The countershaft for flat spots or overheating
    • The countershaft for broken or damaged splines, threads or teeth
    • The spacer for scoring or unusual wear

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the countershaft spacer (7070) into the case.

  2. Object Number: 143351  Size: SH
  3. Install a new countershaft roller bearing (7069) into the case. Using the J 35537 with the J 7079-2 , tap the roller bearing evenly into the case bore.
  4. Install the countershaft roller bearing snap ring.
  5. Similarly, Install a new countershaft ball bearing into the case. Using the J 35537 with the J 7079-2 , tap the ball bearing evenly into the case bore.
  6. Install the countershaft ball bearing backing plate.
  7. Install the countershaft ball bearing snap ring.
  8. Inspect both of the new bearings for free rotation. Verify that no damage has occurred during the installation procedure.
