Condition

Some customer may comment on a fade/static/popping noise from the radio speakers or that the speakers are inoperative.

Cause

This condition may be caused by water entering the trunk and getting the amplifier wet.

Correction

Open the trunk, remove the trim on the right side of vehicle and leave trunk open. Inspect for a leak in the following areas.

    Object Number: 1734061 Size: MF
  1. Run water on the right tail lamp. It may be necessary to reseal the lamp pocket metal as shown above. If water is entering a seam, use 3M™ Clear Auto Sealer, P/N 08551, or the equivalent.
  2. Run water around the trunk seal and look for water inside the trunk.
  3. Close the deck lid and run water over the entire deck lid area. Inspect the seal around the deck lid. It may be necessary to adjust the deck lid.
  4. Run water on the right side of the rear glass channel, between body and the glass. Look for water dripping into the trunk. It may be necessary to reseal the rear glass. Use 3M™ Auto Glass Urethane, P/N 08609, or the equivalent.
  5. Seal any seams that are leaking and retest.
  6. If the amplifier is wet, blow out the moisture and let dry for a couple of hours. Reinstall the amplifier and retest the audio system. Check all the speakers for a good, clean sound. If any distortion is heard in the speakers, replace the amplifier.
