Passenger Air Bag Status Indicator Loose or Falls into Console (Retain Passenger Air Bag Status Indicator with Tie Strap)

Some customers may comment that the passenger air bag status indicator at the front of the center console functions correctly but is loose or has fallen into the console.

This condition may be due to the center console retention tabs not properly retaining the indicator.

Retain the passenger air bag status indicator to the center console using a tie strap. Follow the procedure listed below.

1. Remove the center console to access the backside of the console where the indicator clips into the console retention tabs. Refer to the Console Replacement procedure (SI Document ID 1564044).
2. Correctly reposition and clip the indicator back into place.



3. Using a tie strap, GM P/N 12337820 or equivalent (tie strap should be about 305 mm long by 3 mm wide [12 in long by 1/8 in wide]). Position the strap (1) around the base of the indicator and the console retention tabs that retain the indicator and pull tight. This will close up the console clips to properly retain the indicator.
4. Using RTV Silicone Rubber Sealant -- Black, GM P/N 12345739 (in Canada, P/N 89022195) or equivalent, add a dab of sealant to each of the two end retention tabs at the tie strap to retain the strap to the retention tabs.
5. Reinstall the center console. Refer to the Console Replacement procedure (SI Document ID 1564044).
