Condition

On certain 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 Coupe vehicles with a single panel sunroof (CF5), one or both rear sunroof drain hoses may be misrouted. Over time, the hoses may pull away from their connectors allowing water to enter the vehicle through the sunroof module rear drainage ports.

Correction

Dealers are to partially lower the headliner, reroute the drain hoses if necessary, install nylon straps around the rubber connectors, and reinstall the headliner.

Parts Information

Parts required to complete this program are to be obtained from General Motors Service and Parts Operations (GMSPO). Please refer to your "involved vehicles listing" before ordering parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO = Daily Replenishment Order. In an emergency situation, parts should be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order.

Service Procedure

  1. Remove sunshades from vehicle. Refer to Sunshade Replacement Convertible in SI.
  2. Remove the sunshade retainer bezel. Refer to Sunshade Retainer Bezel Replacement Convertible in SI.
  3. Remove the rubber weatherstrip around the sunroof opening.
  4. Remove the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in SI.
  5. Remove the left and right seat belt pivot bolt and trim.
  6. Remove the coat hooks.
  7. Remove the center pillar upper garnish molding. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Replacement in SI.
  8. Partially remove both of the primary door seals.
  9. Notice: When lowering the headliner, be careful not to bend or damage the headliner.

  10. Remove the three headliner fasteners, partially lower the headliner and inspect the rear sunroof drains for proper routing.

    • If the rear sunroof drains are routed and connected properly, proceed to Step 12.
    • If the rear sunroof drains are not routed and connected properly, reroute and connect them as instructed in this service procedure. Refer to Step 10.

    Important: Do not kink the hose when rerouting. Disconnect the hose from the two retaining clamps and carefully reroute correctly.

  12. If either of the rear drain hoses have come loose or are routed incorrectly, reroute them correctly. The drain hoses should be routed to the outside of the coat hook retainers.

  14. Secure the drain hose by installing a tie strap around the rubber coupling to the drain hose. Trim the tie straps to avoid creating a headliner itch noise.
  15. Verify that the two front drain hoses are properly attached.
  16. • If the drain hoses are not attached properly, attach and secure them with a tie strap. Trim the tie straps to avoid creating a headliner itch noise.

  17. Install the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement Convertible in SI.
  18. Install the sunshade retainer bezel. Refer to Sunshade Retainer Bezel Replacement Convertible in SI.
  19. Install the rubber weatherstrip around the sunroof opening.
  20. Install the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in SI.
  21. Install the left and right seat belt pivot bolt and trim.
  22. Install the coat hooks.
  23. Install the center pillar upper garnish molding. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Replacement in SI.
  24. Install both primary door seals.
  25. Raise the headliner and install the three headliner fasteners.

Courtesy Transportation

The General Motors Courtesy Transportation program is intended to minimize customer inconvenience when a vehicle requires a repair that is covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. The availability of courtesy transportation to customers whose vehicles are within the warranty coverage period and involved in a product program is very important in maintaining customer satisfaction. Dealers are to ensure that these customers understand that shuttle service or some other form of courtesy transportation is available and will be provided at no charge. Dealers should refer to the General Motors Service Policies and Procedures Manual for Courtesy Transportation guidelines.

Customer Notification

General Motors will notify customers of this program on their vehicle (see copy of customer letter included with this bulletin).

Dealer Program Responsibility

All unsold new vehicles in dealers' possession and subject to this program must be held and inspected/repaired per the service procedure of this program bulletin before customers take possession of these vehicles.

Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this program at no charge to customers, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, through February 29, 2008.

Customers who have recently purchased vehicles sold from your vehicle inventory, and for which there is no customer information indicated on the dealer listing, are to be contacted by the dealer. Arrangements are to be made to make the required correction according to the instructions contained in this bulletin. A copy of the customer letter is provided in this bulletin for your use in contacting customers. Program follow-up cards should not be used for this purpose, since the customer may not as yet have received the notification letter.

In summary, whenever a vehicle subject to this program enters your vehicle inventory, or is in your dealership for service through February 29, 2008, you must take the steps necessary to be sure the program correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.

Dear General Motors Customer:

This notice is sent to inform you that General Motors is conducting a customer satisfaction program that affects certain 2006 and 2007 Pontiac G6 Coupes equipped with a single panel sunroof.

We have learned that the rear sunroof drain hoses in your car may have been misrouted when your car was assembled. Overtime, the hoses may pull away from their connectors, allowing water to enter your car’s interior.

What We Will Do: To prevent this condition from occurring, your GM dealer will partially lower the vehicle’s headliner, reroute the drain hoses if necessary, and secure the hoses. This service will be performed for you at no charge until February 29, 2008 .

What You Should Do: To limit any possible inconvenience, we recommend that you contact your dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for this repair. By scheduling an appointment, your dealer can ensure that the necessary parts will be available on your scheduled appointment date.

Customer Reply Form: The enclosed customer reply form identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this form to your dealer will assist in making the necessary correction in the shortest possible time. If you no longer own this vehicle, please let us know by completing the form and mailing it back to us.
